La Guancha (Zothique) Template:Location

La Guancha is a Puerto Rico–themed coastal district in Zothique, built by felixdeportu as a southern extension of Cangrejos territory. Located approximately 800 metres south of Cangrejos proper, the district spans from roughly Template:Coords to Template:Coords and includes several named venues, a lighthouse, and an active music industry compound.

The name derives from La Guancha, a real coastal promenade in Ponce, Puerto Rico — a reflection of the builder's cultural identity woven throughout the district's geography and naming conventions.

Overview[edit]

La Guancha is built along a sea-facing terrain with a mixture of commercial buildings, entertainment venues, and maritime infrastructure. The district is connected to the main Zothique road network via a north–south highway running through Cangrejos, and includes a Nether portal marked as the Blue Line access point at approximately Template:Coords.

The district's commercial core clusters around Template:Coords and includes barter shops, a music hall, and a pub. Storage and maintenance facilities are built into the rock below sea level, with restricted access points marked throughout.

A Cangrejos Roadhouse at Template:Coords serves as the southernmost outpost of Cangrejos territory, marking the transition into uninhabited wilderness. Directional signs there note Cangrejos at 800m north and Rotlandia at 5200m south.

Notable Structures[edit]

El Corsario Pub[edit]

A pirate-themed public house at approximately Template:Coords, named after the corsair tradition of the Caribbean. Connected to the broader seafaring aesthetic of the coastal district.

Cofresi Music Shop[edit]

Located at Template:Coords, named after Roberto Cofresi, a real 19th-century Puerto Rican pirate. The shop sells all 12 disc records via barter signs, and includes music quotations on the walls from Beethoven, Bob Marley, Shakespeare, and Lawrence Durrell.

Cofresi Music Factory[edit]

An underground music production compound at Template:Coords, centered on the fictional producer Phil Specter II — a play on real-life music producer Phil Spector. The original Phil Specter I was "Xed by gaborene" and a memorial wall commemorates the event. A counter on the wall reads: Times Creepers Blew Up Studios: 6. The factory includes a recording room and performer entrance marked for "creeper artists."

Los Morrillos Lighthouse[edit]

A prominent landmark at Template:Coords, named after the real Faro Los Morrillos de Cabo Rojo lighthouse on the southwestern tip of Puerto Rico. The structure serves as a navigation reference for the coastal area and includes storage for spare boats.

El Mosquito Lodge[edit]

A multi-floor seaside lodge at Template:Coords, named after the Canal de El Mosquito (Mosquito Channel) separating the Puerto Rican island of Vieques from the mainland. The lodge includes:

  • Puerto Real Pier — waterfront dock area below the main lodge
  • Buye Pool — named after Playa Buyé, a beach in Cabo Rojo
  • Named guest rooms: Planbonito (Room 1), Parabueyon (Room 2)
  • Joyuda Dining Room and Boqueron Lounge — named after real beachside areas in Cabo Rojo
  • Las Arenas Sitting Room — named after a Puerto Rican beach

Cape Red Mining Company[edit]

A mining operation at approximately Template:Coords, with access to the Cofresi Mine below. Named after Cabo Rojo (Cape Red), the Puerto Rico municipality that inspired much of the district's geography.

Cangrejos General Goods[edit]

A large commercial facility at Template:Coords operated by felixdeportu, selling bulk goods, enchanted books (2–12 diamonds each, tiered by rarity), potions, and building materials. The shop also includes an enchanted book market with tiered pricing from 2 to 9 diamonds per book.

Malodorous Mike's Gas and Grub[edit]

A roadside supply stop at Template:Coords selling agricultural goods including purpur blocks, hay bales, carrots, and potatoes. Signage advertises a "sister shop" called the General Store at the End of the World.

Lore[edit]

La Guancha represents one of the most geographically precise real-world tributes in Zothique. The builder, felixdeportu, reproduced the Cabo Rojo coastline's place names across a series of interconnected venues: the lighthouse at Cabo Rojo, the El Mosquito channel, Buyé beach, Joyuda bay, Boqueron, and the La Guancha promenade itself.

The music industry subplot — Phil Specter's studio, the creeper-destroyed recording sessions, the memorial wall — adds a dark comedy layer characteristic of the Cangrejos extended territory, where player-built lore tends toward the irreverent.

A note left by a visitor named Karthuren in the main farm complex apologises for borrowing a single plank block, suggesting the district maintained a reputation for order even in the server's later years.
