The Mangler is an underground trap room in Alpha Centauri IV, built by Stalin77 at approximately X:1432, Y:36, Z:937 in region r.2.1. It is one of the few named underground installations from the alphac era — a room full of labelled buttons and contraptions placed deep beneath the surface, well away from any established settlement.

Overview

The Mangler sits at Y:36, significantly below the overworld floor. It is not attached to any city; its nearest major settlement is Sher, Stalin77's closed city-state, which occupies the surface of the r.3.3 corridor to the east. The Mangler appears to be a personal project — a trap room built at depth for its own sake, or for the sake of whoever could be persuaded to enter it.

The installation contains multiple named contraptions. One is called The Paragrapher. The others are not individually named in surviving records, but the room's sign text leaves no ambiguity about their purpose:

All i want is the simple pleasure of you blowing up

Advance with extreme caution

Dont be such a Jeka$$

The third sign references a player named Jeka$$. The nature of that relationship is not documented. The room still has the buttons.

Context

Stalin77 is the Mayor of Sher, a closed city-state with a submarine base at Y:62, a naval district, and a food processing plant. He built at the surface — factories, shipyards, streets, a locomotive works — and also at depth. The Submarine Base at Y:62 is under Sher. The Mangler at Y:36 is somewhere else entirely.

The pattern is consistent: above the surface, civic infrastructure and industry; below it, missiles and buttons. The Mangler is the most personal expression of the lower register.
